Safe Affordable Housing
Our goal is to provide safe, affordable housing in a home style, community setting, thereby eliminating a barrier to a participant working toward a stable, productive, God glorifying life.
The individuals we serve often have difficulty finding affordable and safe housing. Many do not have the credit record, favorable rental histories, or background free from criminal convictions; all these conditions make it difficult to find suitable housing. As a result, many of these men return to the environment they are trying to escape.
Next Step utilizes a four-unit apartment building for housing ministry participants. Each apartment has two bedrooms, allowing us to house two men in each apartment. The roommates share the common areas (i.e., living room, kitchen, and bathroom) but have separate bedrooms. Each man pays a monthly participation fee that covers the cost of their housing, including utilities, and all the costs associated with the discipleship element.
Each participant is responsible for his own food and for keeping his apartment clean.
As this is a “next step” ministry, there is, by design, no on-site supervisor or curfew. All participants are subject to the Next Step Ministries Code of Conduct, the General House Rules, random drug and alcohol testing, and frequent visits from Next Step representatives.
