Housing Volunteers

Although we may not admit it, most of us know that it is wiser to fix a problem while it is still small rather than waiting for it to become a disaster. This is how we view the upkeep and maintenance of the Next Step residential facility; we want to maintain it in good condition, giving the residents a sense of responsibility and pride in their home.

In order to maintain the facility, it is very helpful to have some volunteers who can help. Most (but not all!) of our needs are not urgent so we are able to accommodate the schedule of the volunteer. We generally have two types of need to help in our housing:

  Maintenance Workers
This may include a handyman, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, painters, roofers, yard workers, etc. The needed work may be repair, replacement, or upgrades, or it may be seasonal (such as heating/cooling changeover).

  Apartment Readiness
When a new participant moves into an apartment, we want it to be welcoming and clean. So, when one participant moves out, a thorough cleaning of the bedroom (at least) is done and all the bed linens are washed or replaced as needed.

Next Step provides all materials and supplies. We could use some cheerful volunteers to assist in the accomplishment of these tasks!
